AI Search Visibility Audit

An AI search visibility audit should show you the real evidence of how AI tools describe you, not make up a single universal ranking.

We'll reply with a written proposal: the work, what we need from you and an estimated timeline.

The hidden measurement problems

A neat-looking visibility score can hide a bad sample, a wrong answer or a source that AI tools can't reach.

Before we recommend any fix, we look at the questions buyers really ask, which AI tool and account setup was used, the actual answers, the true facts about your business, whether the cited sources back up the answer, whether AI bots (automated programs that read websites) can reach your site and what total each percentage is based on.

  • The score can't be checked

A dashboard shows a visibility score or "share of voice" (how often you appear compared with competitors) but doesn't show the exact questions, AI tools, account setup, raw answers, cited web addresses, failed runs, weightings or the total it was calculated from.

  • Very different AI tools are lumped together

Google's AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini, ChatGPT Search, ChatGPT without web search, Claude, Perplexity and Copilot are added together, even though the product, whether it searched the web, the market and the access all differ.

  • A mention is counted as a recommendation

A neutral reference to you as a source, a warning, an unflattering comparison, a spot in a long list or a stray link is counted as if the AI tool were recommending you to buyers.

  • A citation is assumed to prove the answer is right

The page an AI tool shows as its source may be out of date, copied, about something else or unrelated to the sentence next to it, yet the answer is marked accurate just because a source is shown.

  • Different bot jobs are treated as one on/off switch

Appearing in search results, possible use for AI training, text previews (snippets), pages fetched when a user asks, robots.txt rules (a file that tells bots what they may read), noindex tags (which keep a page out of search) and firewall blocks are all treated as the same access decision.

  • No one owns each buyer question in the fix plan

Every question you don't show up for becomes a new page, while fixing existing content, brand facts, product feeds, profiles, digital PR, schema, analytics and merging pages are left with no one in charge.

What you can hire us to check

Our AI search visibility audit: seven areas of work that turn a sample of AI answers into a dated report you can act on.

An AI search visibility audit shows how AI search and answer tools, such as ChatGPT or Google's AI Overviews, described your brand on a set date, for a set list of buyer questions. You get the exact method we used, the answers, the sources each tool cited and our checks of those sources. You also get confirmed business and technical findings, a priority plan to fix problems and a plan to repeat the checks later. We keep four things apart so they never get mixed up: what we saw in our sample, what the platforms' own reports say, visits that came from AI tools, and real customers.

Your proposal names the brands and products, markets, languages, sample of buyer questions, competitors, AI tools, modes, number of repeat runs, technical checks and depth of evidence included. Each area of work produces something you can use, and we say clearly what data or reviewer it depends on.

Audit plan and business facts

We agree what buying decision the audit supports, which brands and products, markets, languages, AI tools and risks are included, and where the audit ends and fixing begins. Then we check names, other names you go by, claims, sources, where each fact applies, who owns it and when it expires.

A weighted list of buyer questions and a fixed testing method

We build questions from search data and from the way your sales team, support team and customers talk. We link each question to what the buyer wants and how valuable it is, then agree rules for the AI tool, mode, account, chat memory, market, language, device, repeat runs and evidence.

Dated evidence from every AI tool tested

Before we calculate any score, we save the exact questions, the conversation so far, answers, citations, links, screenshots or exports, times, run settings, failed runs and the version of our method.

Checking answers, brand details and citations

We separate being recognized, mentioned, recommended, cited and linked, plus the tone and the part you play in the answer. We make sure each name really refers to your business and test important claims against the true facts and the sources cited.

Technical access and AI bot check

We look at each provider's separate bots for search, AI training and fetching pages when users ask, your robots.txt and page-level rules, your CDN and firewall responses (CDN: a service that delivers your site quickly; firewall: a security filter that can block bots), the text bots actually see, canonical tags (which mark the main version of a page), whether pages can appear in search and as previews, and any server records we can get.

Finding gaps in content, competitors and sources

We compare you with sensible alternatives, trace which pages and types of websites AI tools cite, and map missing proof, content, brand facts, schema, product feeds, profiles, links between your pages, duplicate pages and evidence from other websites.

Priority plan, report and re-check design

We rank fixes by customer value, evidence, risk, effort and what they depend on, and give each one to the right owner. We also set which platform numbers to track, how to link them to real results, how to log each change that goes live, how to rerun the same tests fairly and when to call a result "not clear yet".

Findings walkthrough with your team

We take your team through the results in a live session, explain what each finding means in plain terms and answer questions. Together we agree who takes each next step, so the report leads to action instead of sitting unread.

#1
Why Softscotch

Every finding links back to the question, the answer, the source, the test conditions and the person in charge.

We keep five kinds of evidence apart: what we saw in our sample, the platforms' own numbers, whether AI tools can technically read your site, the true facts about your business, and real business results. We don't squash these very different things into one made-up "AI rank".

The audit gives you one clear diagnosis

The scope shows where checking ends and where other work begins, such as AI SEO, content, schema, product feeds, digital PR, technical fixes or ongoing tracking.

Raw evidence comes before any score

Every finding can be traced back to the exact question, test conditions, answer, cited or linked web address, time and the label we gave it.

We check claims and citations separately

We check the true facts about your business, that a name really means you, where each source came from, how fresh it is, whether it applies and whether the cited page actually backs up what the answer says.

Each bot setting is used for its real purpose

Letting search bots in, choosing whether your content can be used for AI training, preview text settings, pages fetched when a user asks, noindex tags, firewall behavior and private areas of your site are each handled separately.

Platform and business numbers keep their own meaning

Google impressions (times you were shown), Bing's AI citation counts and sample search phrases, visits from ChatGPT, website analytics and sales records are never relabeled as one made-up rank.

The handover shows doubts and owners

The totals behind each percentage, repeat runs, failed runs, how much results vary, outside factors, how serious each issue is, what depends on what, change notes and whether each decision is supported or not clear yet all stay visible.

Basic to advanced

What goes into a reliable, trustworthy AI search visibility audit.

These 36 parts cover planning the audit, collecting evidence, checking answers and sources, technical access, comparing you with competitors, measurement, rules and upkeep, plus some newer methods we only use when they fit your business.

Audit plan, business facts and starting point
Audit goal and limitsName the decision, the target customer, the AI tools included, markets, brands and products, what you get, what is left out and who owns the related work that follows.
Record of true business factsRecord approved names, other names, ID numbers, claims, their source, where they apply, who owns them, when they expire and any facts that are disputed or unknown.
Which AI tools and marketsSet out the products, modes, whether web search is on, markets, languages, devices, accounts and any combinations that aren't available.
Rules for collecting evidenceBefore testing starts, approve how we collect answers, the platforms' terms, privacy, which accounts we use, who can see the evidence, how long we keep it and when we delete it.
Starting point for normal search and resultsRecord how Google reads and lists your site, your search results, visits from other sites, landing pages, inquiries and later sales results, each with where the number came from.
Buyer questions, ranked by importanceBuild questions from real search demand and the way customers talk, merge duplicates and weigh each one by what the buyer wants, how well you fit, its value and its risk.
Testing method and evidence
Test conditions for each AI toolKeep the mode, account, chat memory, location, language, device, workspace and whether it was a fresh conversation attached to every test run.
Dated record of each question testedKeep the question, AI tool, date, market, answer context and cited web addresses, instead of reporting one universal ranking.
Rules for repeat runsSet which runs count, how many repeats, timing, how to handle failed runs, fresh conversations and matching conditions for the first test and the re-test.
Archive of raw answers and evidenceKeep the exact answers, the sources shown, cited and linked web addresses, screenshots or exports, extra details about each run and any corrections made by our reviewers.
How you appear and whether it's really you
Matching names to the right businessSort out names, products, people, locations, parent companies, branches, businesses with similar names and old brand names, so nothing is wrongly counted as you without anyone noticing.
Sorting the part you play in each answerSeparate being recognized, mentioned, considered, recommended, warned about, cited or linked, the role of the source and the tone used.
Checking claims and what's missingLabel each important statement as correct, incomplete, out of date, unclear, unsupported, conflicting or made up.
How serious it is and how to fix itRecord the possible harm, which AI tools are affected, the evidence, the right expert to review it, who will fix it, the deadline and a focused re-test.
Citations and source evidence
Cleaning up cited web addressesRemove tracking codes, follow redirects, find the main version of each page, spot duplicates and pages that won't load, and note when the address shown differs from where it really goes.
Where each source came fromLink the answer, the claim, the cited page, the publisher, any reposted or copied versions and the original evidence.
Does the citation back up the claim?Test whether each source shown fully supports, partly supports, doesn't support or contradicts what the answer says.
How trustworthy and relevant each source isCheck who wrote it, whether they are independent, their expertise, how recent it is, their method, any commercial interest, and whether it fits the market and audience for that specific claim.
Technical access and how your site is read
Bot settings for each AI toolTreat appearing in search, AI training choices, preview text and pages fetched when users ask as separate settings, following each platform's official documentation.
Confirming which bots really reach your siteUse each provider's current guidance, how your site responds, CDN or firewall records and any server logs we can get, instead of trusting the name a bot gives itself (its user-agent), which can be faked.
What bots can see and whether pages can be listedCheck page status, robots.txt, noindex and preview settings, canonical tags, content that only appears through JavaScript (code that builds the page in the browser), whether bots can find pages through your links and whether pages are listed in search.
Where each claim and brand fact comes fromLink names, facts, ID numbers and important claims to a trusted source and to a person who keeps them up to date.
Content and competitor review
Fair competitor comparisonDecide which alternatives are sensible for each question, then compare the part each plays in the answer and its source support, without assuming every competitor fits the category equally.
Proof only you can offerSend missing original data, examples, methods, expert review and source notes to one suitable existing page, or to a new page only when there is a clear reason.
Matching schema and product feeds to your pagesMake sure the facts on your pages match your schema (hidden labels that describe your business to search engines), product or location feeds and official business profiles. This keeps facts consistent, but it can't promise AI tools will cite you.
One page for each buyer needGive each buyer need one main page or owner, spot pages that should be merged and avoid creating a new page for every single question, which leaves your pages competing with each other.
Measurement and re-testing
Using the platforms' own dataUse Google's AI search reports in Search Console, Bing's AI Performance report and visits from ChatGPT where they are available, while keeping each one's own definition and rollout limits.
Limits of what we observedShow which runs counted, which failed, the weightings, how much repeat runs varied, any corrections to automatic labels and the point at which a change counts as real or not clear yet.
Linking AI visits to real resultsWhere allowed, connect visits from AI search tools to engaged visits, accepted leads, sales they helped with or another agreed result, without claiming the AI tool caused them when we can't prove it.
Re-test linked to each changeRecord changed pages, brand facts and settings, keep the same test conditions, look for outside factors and report whether the evidence supports the change, points in a direction, shows harm or is not clear yet.
Improving the question and source listAdd, remove or rebalance questions and sources based on how well they cover buyers, how much results vary, how useful they are for decisions and what they cost, while keeping results comparable with past tests.
Rules, upkeep and newer methods
Log of platform changesTrack changes to AI products, bots, reports, measurements, access, AI models and screens that could make our method or a finding out of date.
Privacy and how long we keep evidenceControl accounts, personal data, raw answers, screenshots, copies of sources, who has access, sharing, how long we keep things and when we delete them.
Who keeps things up to date and handles problemsName who updates business facts, the question list, bot settings, corrections, how serious an incident is, report definitions and decisions about re-tests.
Checking every business in a fixed marketCount every eligible business in a market only when there is a reliable, fixed list of them and a lawful collection method agreed in advance.
Readiness for AI agentsWhere AI agents that browse websites for buyers are really part of how people buy from you, check that your site structure, feeds, forms, page states and permission limits work for them.
Tools for checking and confirming

Tools collect data. How each number is defined, what access we had and the raw evidence decide what it really means.

Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools (free tools that show how your site performs in Google and Bing), website analytics, server logs (your site's own record of every visit), saved browser captures and outside visibility tools each answer a different question. Naming a tool does not mean we are partners with it or certified by it, that we can test every possible question, or that we can see how a platform decides its answers.

Look at the evidence

Seven checks that turn what AI tools say about you into clear decisions, each with an owner.

For each check we keep the current evidence, the rules we used to sort it, the limits, what it depends on, who is in charge and how we will confirm a fix worked. A screenshot, a count of citations or a score from a software company is not enough on its own.

Check 01 · Agree the decision

Audit plan, business facts, brand names and your starting point

We start by agreeing what the audit can fairly judge, and which facts, markets, brands, products and results your business is able to approve.

The audit can end with making fixes, ongoing tracking, fixing basics first, no action or a finding that isn't clear yet. You don't need to sign up for a new GEO (generative engine optimization: ongoing work to show up in AI answers) program.

What buyers decide goalName the customer question, buying stage, business result and risk that make the audit worthwhile.
What's included scopeChoose the AI tools, modes, markets, languages, brands, competitors, dates and what is clearly left out.
True business facts factsRecord approved claims, products, services, locations, people, prices, qualifications and limits.
Name matching matchSet out other names, ID numbers, parent companies, branches, businesses with similar names, old names and rules for avoiding false matches.
Starting point startRecord how Google reads and lists your site, normal search results, visits from other sites, landing pages and later sales results.
Who decides ownerName who approves high-risk facts, which fixes come first, access, corrections and the final next step.
Check 02 · Plan the sample

Buyer questions, test conditions, repeat runs and rules for collecting evidence

A list of questions is only useful when every question has a source, a goal, a weight and test conditions we can repeat.

No sample of questions covers every user, and public answers can't reveal how a platform decides, what it searched behind the scenes or any universal rank.

Where questions come from sourceUse search demand, sales, support, research, how people move through your site and customer language, not just a list from a tool.
Goal and importance weightLink each question to the buying decision, brand, market, buying stage, sales value, risk and the reason it was included.
AI tool settings settingsRecord the product mode, whether web search is on, account, chat memory, location, language, device and workspace.
How we run tests methodSet rules for fresh conversations, repeat runs, timing, failed runs, manual or approved automatic collection and what evidence we record.
Privacy and terms approveApprove accounts, question data, how we collect and store it, who can see it, how long we keep it, deletion and sharing.
Fixed versions versionLock the questions, conditions and method version, and keep a record of every later change and how it links to past results.
Check 03 · Save and sort

Raw answers, name matches, the part you play, accuracy and seriousness

We save what the AI tool actually said before any score or automatic label strips out the context.

Being recognized, mentioned, recommended, cited, linked, spoken of positively and described accurately are different things, and we record each one separately.

Raw evidence proveKeep the exact question, answer, source labels, links, screenshots or exports, time and run settings.
Name match matchLink every name we see to your approved brand, or mark it as unclear, a similar-named business or out of scope.
Your part in the answer roleSort whether you're considered, recommended, warned about, compared, used as a source, cited or linked, and the tone used.
Pulling out claims claimsFind important statements about your offer, what you can do, price, location, qualifications, safety and who you suit.
Accuracy check checkCompare each claim with the true facts that apply and label it correct, incomplete, out of date, unclear or unsupported.
Seriousness riskRecord the possible harm, how many people could see it, the right expert reviewer, how it gets fixed, the deadline and a focused re-test.
Check 04 · Check the sources

Cited web pages, groups of related sites, original evidence and whether sources back up the claims

A citation shown in an AI answer is where our source check begins. It doesn't prove the answer is right.

Public evidence can show the cited page and how it links to other sources. It can't show every hidden step an AI tool took to find, rank or trust its sources.

Web address check addressKeep the web addresses as shown, then remove tracking codes, follow redirects and find main versions, duplicates and pages that won't load.
Related sites groupGroup true copies, reposted articles, sub-sites and sites owned by the same publisher, so the same source isn't quietly counted many times.
Original evidence originTrace copied, circular and second-hand material back to the original study, record or statement, or note where the trail breaks.
Does it apply? fitCheck the date, market, audience, product, method, independence and any business relationship behind the source.
Claim support supportLabel whether the source fully supports, partly supports, doesn't support, contradicts or doesn't apply to each important claim in the answer.
Opportunity actionDecide whether the gap needs your own evidence, a correction, technical work, matching profiles or feeds, or backing from other websites.
Check 05 · Test technical access

Search bots, AI training, previews, pages fetched for users, firewalls, page display and search listing

Each provider's bots and settings do different jobs, and seeing a page in your own browser doesn't prove a bot gets usable content.

Robots.txt rules ask bots to behave in a certain way. They are not a login and they don't protect private content.

Which bot does what jobSeparate Googlebot, OAI-SearchBot (ChatGPT search), GPTBot (OpenAI training), PerplexityBot, bots that fetch pages when a user asks, and Claude's separate search, user and training bots.
Robots and page settings settingsCheck allow and block rules, noindex tags, limits on preview text, canonical tags and whether sub-sites are covered.
Server and firewall response responseCheck page status, redirects, bot challenges, limits by speed or IP address, CDN behavior and the content our approved tests get back.
What bots can see displayConfirm that important text, links, key facts and page states appear both in the page code and in the finished page.
Search listing and discovery listingReview sitemaps (lists of your pages for search engines), links between your pages, which version Google picks as the main one, whether pages are listed and supported signs of freshness.
Server records logsWhere available, confirm known bots, how your site responded and when, without trusting the name a bot gives itself alone.
Check 06 · Find who should fix it

Competitor fit, content, proof, schema, feeds, profiles and pages competing with each other

The fix goes where the real problem is, instead of writing a new article for every question you don't appear for.

Basic SEO, useful original content and accurate business data still matter. Special "AI schema", forcing text into small chunks and fake mentions are not reliable shortcuts.

Fair competitors compareDecide which alternatives are sensible for each question, and keep fit for the category separate from visibility and source support.
One page per need pageLink each buyer need and brand to one existing page, one merged page or, if justified, one new page.
Missing proof proofName missing first-hand data, examples, expert review, comparison facts, methods and source notes.
Matching facts matchMake your page text, schema, feeds, profiles, ID numbers, locations, products and people all say the same thing.
Outside evidence outsidePass gaps in related sites, publishers, directories, reviews and citations to the people who handle honest PR or your profiles.
Who does it ownerChoose fix, merge, correct, confirm, watch, delay or no action, with what it depends on and how we'll check it worked.
Check 07 · Measure and re-check

Platform data, totals, real results, changes that go live and uncertainty

The report keeps our sampled observations, the platforms' own numbers, visits from AI tools and business results apart until the final decision.

A better answer after a change goes live may still only point in a direction or not be clear, because platforms, search indexes, competitors and samples all change on their own.

Platform data platformUse Google's AI search reports, Bing's citation counts and sample search phrases and visits from ChatGPT where available, with their exact definitions.
What totals are based on totalsShow which runs counted, failed runs, weightings, repeats, how much results varied, unclear cases and corrections to automatic labels.
Business results resultsMatch engaged visits, accepted leads, sales in progress or another agreed result, while being clear about what tracking can't prove.
Change record go liveName the pages, brand facts, sources and bot settings that changed, and the checks on that work, before re-testing.
Fair comparison compareKeep the same questions and test conditions, record outside factors and date any change to the method that we can't avoid.
Decision decideReport whether the evidence supports the change, points in a direction, shows harm or isn't clear yet, then choose to keep it, revise it, watch, stop or expand.
What changes

From an unclear visibility score to a dated starting point, a priority plan and a fair repeat check you can compare.

Before

Your team has screenshots or a visibility score, but the sample of buyer questions, the date, the test conditions, the cited sources and the true business facts are incomplete.

  • The sample doesn't reflect your customersQuestions suggested by a tool, markets, competitor brands and priorities are used without a written buying decision or a rule for what counts.
  • The evidence can't be checked againThe date, AI tool, mode, account setup, chat memory, exact answer, citation, link, failed runs and source page are hidden behind a chart.
  • Every gap gets the same explanationTechnical access, search listing, accuracy of brand facts, usefulness of content, evidence, profiles, outside sources and normal ups and downs in the sample are never checked.
Changes

A dated starting point links real buyer questions to the exact test conditions, answers, citations, source evidence and findings, each one sent to an owner.

  • The testing method is agreed and signed offWhere each question came from, its priority, AI tool, mode, account, chat memory, market, language, device, repeat runs and anything left out are all visible.
  • You can review how accurately AI tools describe your brandBrand names, the part you play, claims, dates, recommendations, web addresses, related sites, whether sources apply and whether they back the answer all link to exact evidence.
  • Each finding has a practical next stepDecisions on content, evidence, merging pages, bots, search listing, schema, profiles, outside sources, analytics or no action each have an owner.
After

A repeat check and any available platform data show what changed, what is still uncertain and what the next priority should be, based on the evidence.

  • Changes can be linked to what went liveThe pages, brand facts, claims, sources, settings and checks that changed are each noted with the date they went live.
  • Results keep their level of uncertaintyWhich runs counted, failed runs, repeats, priorities, how much results varied, platform definitions and sample limits all stay attached.
  • The to-do list follows the evidenceFindings on answers, citations, sources, visits from AI tools, accuracy and customer use lead to a priority, a no-action decision or a "not clear yet" decision.
Your type of business and what's at stake

AI search visibility for your type of business depends on your brands, your buyers' questions, the sources AI tools read and how much a wrong answer could cost you.

A local service provider, an online store with a large product catalog, a regulated adviser, a publisher and an industrial supplier each need different questions, rules for matching names, standards for sources, levels of seriousness and ways to link AI answers to real results.

Local

Local and multi-location

Names, categories, addresses, service areas, hours, reviews and whether each branch qualifies differ from place to place, which can lead AI tools to recommend the wrong location.

FocusA list of locations and their other names, local buyer questions, matching maps and profiles, checks that vary by market and source review for each branch
MeasureRecommendations of the right branch, accurate facts, quality of cited sources, wrong-location mistakes, good calls or bookings and how fast errors get fixed
Online sales

Ecommerce and retail

Products, versions (such as size or color), price, stock, shipping, what works with what, reviews and store data change faster than many outside websites update.

FocusMatching each product and version, questions weighted by sales value, making your catalog and product feed match, and checking cited review and store sources
MeasureRight product and version, whether you are recommended or cited, out-of-date price or stock claims, engaged product visits, sales quality and return risk
Software

Software companies (SaaS)

Answers about plans, features, integrations (connections with other software), security and comparisons can be distorted by old pages, review sites and fast product updates.

FocusTrue facts for each product and plan, questions for each buying stage, release notes and help docs as sources, fair competitors and where review-site claims come from
MeasureAccurate feature and plan claims, backed-up comparisons, how often you are recommended and cited, trial quality, sales you helped win and the age of out-of-date sources
B2B

Business-to-business (B2B) and professional services

Few searches, long decisions made by groups of people and expert claims make broad "share of voice" scores less useful than solid sources and good-quality sales leads.

FocusQuestions by job role and use, service and expert names, checks on proof and methods, a sensible competitor list and linking to your CRM (customer records system)
MeasureYour part in answers at each buying stage, expertise backed by sources, good-quality referrals, accepted leads, sales you helped win and how serious unsupported claims are
Health

Healthcare and wellness

Claims about treatments, qualifications, safety, locations and results can cause harm, so they need review by a qualified expert and evidence that fits the local rules.

FocusA record of high-risk claims, medical and qualification sources, which locations and services apply, sorting by seriousness and an approved way to make corrections
MeasureSerious misinformation, unsupported recommendations, decisions by qualified reviewers, time to fix, quality of appointments and risks still open
Regulated

Finance, insurance and legal

Rates, who qualifies, advice, licenses, regions, required disclosures and dates mean a positive-looking mention can be dangerous if the answer doesn't apply to the reader.

FocusA map of regions and roles, whether each claim applies, original regulator and product sources, fair competitors and who handles serious issues
MeasureRight region and qualification, whether sources back the claims, serious errors, AI tools rightly declining to answer, good-quality inquiries and correction status
Media

Publishers and media

Being cited, getting credit for your work, original reporting, reposting by other sites, paywalls, preview text, bot settings and AI training choices all affect each other.

FocusArticle and author names, a map of related sites, original evidence and reposts, search and training settings, and tracking of citations and visits
MeasureCitations of the original source, copied or circular evidence, correct credit, bot settings, engaged readers and time to fix source errors
Travel

Travel and hospitality

Location, season, price, availability, reviews and policies change across markets, and recommendations can depend heavily on who is asking and what the AI tool knows about them.

FocusDestination and property names, local and traveler-type questions, where booking information comes from, matching feeds and profiles, and freshness
MeasureRecommendations that fit, current price and policy claims, source freshness, engaged booking visits and how often answers name the wrong place or are out of date
Education

Education and training

Claims about programs, accreditation, entry rules, fees, deadlines and results differ by intake group, campus and region.

FocusA map of programs and campuses, questions for each enrollment stage, support from official and outside sources, whether dates apply and fixing high-risk errors
MeasureAccurate program and deadline claims, whether recommendations fit, support from original sources, good-quality inquiries, applications and time to fix errors
Marketplaces

Marketplaces and directories

Huge numbers of listings, other names, duplicates, listing quality and changing availability can make brand and citation counts unreliable.

FocusRules for matching names, limited samples for each category, matching listings and feeds, grouping related sites, controlling duplicates and full-market counts only when they fit
MeasureShare of names matched or unclear, how concentrated recommendations are, duplicate citations, listing freshness, good-quality contacts or sales
Industrial

Industrial and manufacturing

Part numbers, standards, what fits with what, distributors, regions and safety evidence need exact matching of products and sources.

FocusQuestions that include part numbers, a register of products and parts, where technical documents come from, which distributors fit and review by engineers
MeasureCorrect part number and fit claims, support from original specifications, how serious unsafe errors are, good-quality inquiries and the age of out-of-date documents
Membership

Membership, nonprofit and community groups

Your mission, who can join, member benefits, local chapters, events and public versus members-only information can be scattered across profiles and local sources.

FocusOrganization and chapter names, questions for each audience, matching profiles and events, whether sources apply, privacy-aware evidence and clear result definitions
MeasureWhether AI tools recognize you, accurate claims about who can join and benefits, local chapter fit, source coverage, good-quality sign-ups or donations and time to fix errors
Clear ownership

  • Give confirmed access to Google and Bing webmaster tools, analytics, server, CDN, website editor, product feed, profile and CRM where chosen
  • Approve serious findings, corrections to public pages or outside sources, legal positions and which fixes come first
  • Accept the final limits, fix-plan owners, fee, timing, re-check design and the rule for deciding whether a result is supported or not clear yet
How the audit fits together

How the audit works: nine linked records that trace each buyer question through to the fix and the re-check.

A change to a question, an AI tool, an account, an answer, a source, a page, a bot setting, a website update or a measurement can change a finding. We save a dated version of each record so those changes always stay visible.

The connected growth engine

AI SEO, GEO & LLM Search

Handles the wider program of fixes: technical setup so AI tools can find you, how your content is organized, brand facts, building outside sources, measurement and rules for upkeep.

LLM Visibility & Citation Tracking

Handles regular tracking of questions and citations, keeping trends up to date and sending alerts after the one-off audit sets your starting point.

Prompt Gap Analysis

Handles deeper research into what buyers ask, and which questions matter most, when that research is the main job.

AI-ready Content Optimization

Handles how clearly each page answers questions, plus evidence, claims, brand facts, source notes, how easy the content is to use and links to related pages.

Schema and Structured Data for AI

Handles schema (hidden labels that describe your pages to search engines) that matches what's visible on the page: planning, adding, testing and upkeep. It can't promise AI tools will cite you.

Digital PR and Conversion Tracking

Handle outside sources and reputation, plus the tracking setup for visits from AI tools, your CRM and later sales results, when those gaps are part of your plan.

One connected scope. AI Search Visibility Audit is coordinated with the strategy, creative, experience, data and reporting it depends on, so responsibilities and handoffs stay visible in one written plan.

What to expect

How long an AI search visibility audit takes, and the full growth plan.

The AI Search Visibility Audit goes from getting access and collecting evidence to a report you can act on in about three weeks, once we have the accounts and source records we need. Fixing problems is planned separately from finding them. The audit is one part of the six-month Softscotch growth plan shown below.

AI Search Visibility Audit, from audit to action

Days 1–2

Agree the audit plan

Confirm buying decisions, brands and products, markets, languages, AI tools, risks, access, what you get, what's left out and where the audit ends and fixing begins.

KPI Plan agreed
Days 2–4

Record your starting point

Record how Google reads and lists your site, normal search results, visits from other sites, landing pages, analytics and later sales results.

KPI Starting point
Days 4–7

Collect raw AI answers

Save the exact questions, answers, citations, links, times, settings, failed runs and allowed screenshots or exports.

KPI Proof
Week 2

Map gaps in content and against competitors

Compare sensible alternatives and decide where content, proof, schema, feed, profile, PR, page-merging and no-action decisions should go.

KPI Gap map
Weeks 2–3

Add platform data and real results

Add Google and Bing reports where available, visits from ChatGPT, the totals behind each rate, how much results vary and good-quality business results.

KPI Report
Week 3

Set priorities and plan the re-check

Assign fixes, what they depend on and how we'll check each one worked, then set out how changes are dated, fair comparisons, outside factors and decision rules.

KPI Fix plan

Our full growth plan (all services together), month by month

Month 1

Foundation and review

We review your whole website, where you rank and your competitors, agree how the site should be organized, and set up hosting, analytics (visitor tracking) and your GoHighLevel lead system. The first agreed pages start going live.

KPI pages live
Month 2

Build and launch

The site is built or rebuilt. Main, service and industry pages go live with on-page SEO, website labels and technical fixes. Your Google Business Profile is improved and lead follow-up automations are switched on.

KPI pages in Google
Month 3

Early rankings, paid ads start

More pages built from templates (programmatic pages) start going live, paid ads and email follow-ups are switched on for early leads, and Google adds your pages to its results as the first rankings usually appear.

KPI search terms ranking
Month 4

Momentum builds

Rankings often start climbing, visits from free search begin to rise, ad spending is tuned to the return it brings (ROAS, return on ad spend), and groups of related articles and links from other sites build your reputation with Google.

KPI visits from search
Month 5

Results start to show

Main search terms can move closer to page one, the first leads from free search often arrive, AI tools may begin to mention you, and testing improvements to your pages (CRO, conversion rate optimization) helps more visitors get in touch.

KPI leads from search
Month 6

Growth builds on itself

Pages that are working are protected and improved, template pages bring in visitors searching for very specific terms, and SEO, ads, email and automation work together to bring steadier leads and sales. Timing varies by market and competition, and no ranking is guaranteed.

KPI leads and sales
How we compare

How we compare: a good AI search visibility audit is careful evidence, not a universal score or a promise of citations.

The difference is a clear, written link between what buyers want, the exact test conditions, the raw answers, the true facts about your business, whether sources back up the answers, whether AI bots can read your site, the platforms' own data, real business results and a next step that someone owns.

The risk of using a different agency for everything
  • Uses questions suggested by a tool, with no link to real buyers, sales value or clear exclusions
  • Combines different AI products, modes, accounts and markets into one visibility score
  • Asks each question only once and treats that single answer as a stable ranking
  • Counts every mention, source appearance or link as a positive recommendation
  • Treats the presence of a citation as proof that the answer is correct and supported
  • Reports website names without checking main page versions, redirects, duplicates, related sites or where the content first came from
  • Checks one robots.txt file without separating search, AI training, previews, pages fetched for users and firewall behavior
  • Ignores Google's and Bing's own current reports, or relabels their numbers as rankings
  • Recommends a new page for every question without deciding which page owns each need or checking for pages that compete with each other
  • Gives credit for any change to the latest update without matching test conditions, checking outside factors or allowing a "not clear yet" result
vs
Softscotch
  • Builds a weighted list of questions from real demand, customer language, fit, value and risk
  • Keeps the AI tool, mode, web search setting, account, chat memory, market, language and device visible
  • Uses dated, repeated tests with saved raw answers, failed runs and clear totals behind each rate
  • Separates being recognized, mentioned, recommended, cited and linked, plus the tone and your part in the answer
  • Tests important claims in each answer against the true facts and the cited page itself
  • Cleans up web addresses and traces related sites, copies and the original evidence
  • Checks each provider's bot settings, server responses, what bots can see, search listing and any server records
  • Keeps Google impressions, Bing citations and sample phrases, visits from AI tools and business results as separate numbers
  • Sends each gap to one owner: content, page merging, technical, schema, feed, profile, PR, analytics or no action
  • Dates each change, keeps test conditions matched, records outside factors and allows a supported, harmful or "not clear yet" result

Ethical, transparent, always on

One accountable team, strictly white-hat (only methods search engines and platforms allow), no shortcuts and no surprises. Support whenever you need it.

One plan, full-stack access

One Softscotch plan gives you access to the full service stack, coordinated around your priorities.

You do not need a separate agency or retainer for every channel. Your plan can draw from search, paid media, web, ecommerce, outreach, automation, lead generation, messaging, content, creative and operations. The agreed scope sets what is active, in what order and at what capacity.

Pricing approach

One price for everything, not a stack of separate retainers.

You get one price for your whole marketing, not a separate retainer for every service. SEO, paid ads, your website, automations, cold email and newsletters, we run all of it as a single scope, so you get the most result for what you pay. Agencies sell each of these on its own, so the invoice climbs whether or not that line drives a single lead.

Bought separately, service by service

A different agency or retainer for each service. The bill stacks up fast, and keeps climbing whether or not each one moves a single lead.

All of it, one scope

We run your whole marketing as one engagement, so you get the most result for what you pay, not a pile of disconnected invoices.

  • Template-built pages (programmatic SEO), links from other websites (backlinks) and authority

Questions, answered

AI search visibility audit FAQs: straight answers, with no fake rankings or unproven GEO tricks.

These answers cover what's included, which AI tools we check, how we choose questions, repeat runs, citations, AI bots, platform data, accuracy, competitors, making fixes, guarantees, timing, pricing and re-checks.

Filter
What is an AI search visibility audit?

It is a one-off check, with clear limits, of how chosen AI search and answer tools describe your brand for a set list of buyer questions. We save the exact test conditions, answers, citations and source evidence, confirm your brand details and whether AI bots can read your site, and give you a priority plan to fix problems and re-check them.

Is this the same as AI SEO, GEO or AEO?

No. The audit shows what is happening now and finds where the problem sits. AI SEO, GEO (generative engine optimization) and AEO (answer engine optimization) are the ongoing work to improve how you show up in AI answers, and can include technical SEO, content, brand facts, outside sources, schema and measurement. We keep that wider work on our AI SEO page so the audit price doesn't hide an open-ended program.

Which AI platforms and tools do you check?

Your proposal can include Google's AI features in search, ChatGPT Search, Perplexity, Claude with web search, Microsoft Copilot or other supported tools. We name the exact product and mode, because Google's AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini, chat tools that search the web and chat tools that don't are not the same. What's available depends on your market, the account and the date.

How do you choose the questions to test?

We use real search demand, customer research, the way your sales and support teams talk, how people move through your site, your products, comparisons, locations and follow-up questions. Every question we include links to a buying decision, a goal, a brand, a market, a source, a weight and a reason. We merge questions that only differ in wording instead of pretending every phrase is a new keyword.

How many questions and test runs are included?

There is no honest one-size-fits-all number. The sample depends on how many brands, buyer goals, markets, languages, AI tools and decisions are involved, plus the repeat runs needed to see how much answers vary. Your proposal states the questions, repeat rules, what's left out, depth of evidence and cost before we start collecting.

Do you give an AI visibility score or rank?

We can give clearly defined rates and a scorecard, but not a universal AI rank. Every number shows which runs counted, failed runs, weightings, how much repeat runs varied and the rules we used to sort answers. Different AI tools stay separate, and the result may only point in a direction or not be clear yet.

What is the difference between a mention, a recommendation and a citation?

A mention names your business. A recommendation presents you as a good option for the question. A citation shows a source, and a link sends people to a web page. A brand can be mentioned in a negative way, cited without being recommended, or recommended without any of its own pages being cited, so we report each one separately.

Do you check whether citations actually back up the AI answer?

Yes, for the important claims and the depth of source checking chosen in your scope. We open the cited page and label whether it fully supports, partly supports, doesn't support, contradicts or doesn't apply to the claim. Then we check where the source came from, how recent and independent it is and whether it fits your market or product. A citation being shown does not prove the answer is accurate.

How do AI bot and robots.txt checks work?

Following each provider's current guidance, we separate bots that list pages for search, bots that may collect content for AI training, preview text settings and pages fetched when a user asks. We check robots.txt and page-level rules, CDN and firewall responses, what bots can see, search listing and any logs available. Robots.txt is not a lock on your content, and one rule for one bot does not control everything a provider does.

Can you confirm that ChatGPT, Perplexity or Claude have visited our pages?

Where useful server, CDN or firewall logs exist, we can look at likely bot visits, how your site responded and each provider's current guidance on confirming its bots. The name a bot gives itself can be faked, and not seeing a bot in a short window of logs doesn't prove it can't reach you. So the report says clearly what was confirmed, what wasn't and what we couldn't check.

Do you use the AI data in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools?

Yes, when your site is set up in these tools and the feature is available to you. Google has added dedicated reports on its AI search features for some sites, and Bing's AI Performance report shows how often your pages are cited, which pages are cited and sample search phrases the AI used to find them. We keep their different definitions and rollout limits instead of merging them into a fake rank.

Can you see the exact questions people type into ChatGPT?

Not as a complete report like the one website owners get for Google searches. We can measure visits that reach your site from ChatGPT links, but the questions people asked, the influence of answers that didn't lead to a click and account details are not fully shown. Our list of questions is a testing method, not proof of every real question people ask.

How do you compare us with competitors fairly?

For each question we decide which alternatives are sensible, then compare how they are mentioned, recommended, cited and backed up. Famous brands or brands from other markets aren't treated as equal competitors by default, and unexpected businesses that show up are reported as a finding rather than squeezed into your named competitor list.

What happens if an AI answer says something seriously false about us?

We save the exact evidence, compare the claim with your approved sources, rate how serious it is and where it appears, and pass the issue to the right person on your team. Fixing your own pages, working on outside sources and contacting the AI provider or the public each need different approvals. We can't promise when an outside AI tool will change its answer.

Does the audit include making every recommended fix?

No, unless your proposal includes specific fixes. The audit gives each task to the right owner: an existing page, page merging, technical SEO, bot settings, content, schema, product feeds, profiles, digital PR, analytics or ongoing tracking. This keeps the audit price and the handover clear.

How often should AI search visibility be re-checked?

Re-check once the chosen fixes are live and the AI tools and search engines have had a fair chance to re-read your site or update. After that, use ongoing tracking only where it is worth it for your decisions. We keep the same questions and test conditions, date each change and note outside factors such as AI model updates, search index changes, competitors and changes to our method.

Can you guarantee more mentions, citations, traffic or revenue?

No. Outside platforms decide what they look up, what they answer and how they show it, and they can change at any time. We are responsible for the agreed method, evidence, diagnosis, fix plan and re-check. The report may support a direction, show harm or stay unclear, rather than pretending to be certain.

How long does the audit take and how is it priced?

Timing and price depend on the number of brands and products, markets, languages, AI tools and modes, questions and repeat runs, account and log access, how deeply we check sources and claims, technical complexity, any regulated-industry review, linking platform data to results and how detailed the report is. Your proposal states the sample, what we need from you, what's left out, the schedule and the fee before work starts.
