Programmatic Display Advertising Services

Know exactly what your display ad budget is buying.

We'll reply with a written proposal: the work, what we need from you and an estimated timeline.

The hidden problems

Why programmatic ad spend becomes hard to explain

An unclear buying route, unknown sellers, repeat views that nobody can track across devices, gaps in quality checks and fees bundled together can hide what your business actually paid for.

  • Nobody has decided how the ad space is bought

The open exchange (a public auction for ad space), private deals, guaranteed ad space and managed services are talked about as one service, even though access, pricing and delivery are very different for each.

  • You can't see who you are buying from

The websites, sellers, resellers, ad exchanges and fees cannot be linked back to the ad views your budget actually paid for.

  • Permission to use audience data is assumed

Decisions about loading customer data, matching people across devices, consent, how long data is kept and who is left out are hidden behind an audience name.

  • Quality controls are treated as guarantees

Checks for whether ads could be seen, fake or bot traffic and brand safety are switched on without knowing how much they cover, what levels are set, the exceptions or how much smaller your audience becomes.

  • Nobody really knows how often people see the ads

Limits on how often one person sees your ad depend on devices, IDs, account settings and buying routes, so an average on a dashboard can hide people who are shown your ad far too often.

  • Costs stop at ad spend

Data, quality checking, platform, private deal, ad serving and service fees are left out when the business compares results.

Exactly what's included

What our programmatic display advertising includes in the first round

Programmatic display means buying banner and video ads across many websites and apps through software, in real time. Before any money is spent, we agree the exact route: the DSP (demand-side platform, the software used to buy the ads) or managed service, countries, ad types, which websites and apps you can reach, the audience data used, budget, safety controls and the business result that counts. Softscotch then joins up the checks on sellers, privacy decisions, how often people see your ads, the ads themselves, landing pages, tracking, quality checks, spending pace and reporting for that route. No setup can guarantee a particular placement, that every ad is seen or that all fake or bot traffic is removed.

Eight areas of work take you from choosing the buying route and budget, through sellers, audiences, quality checks, ads and tracking, to one carefully controlled launch, with accounts and data kept in places you own.

Buying route, countries and budget brief

We name the DSP or managed service, countries, ad types, how ad space will be bought, the business result, budget, fees, risk limits and who approves.

Audience data rights and repeat views plan

We set out which data you may use (your own customer data, data shared by a partner, or data bought from outside providers), what it may be used for, consent, how long it is kept, who is left out, the limits of matching people, how often each person may see ads and who should stop seeing them.

Websites, apps and sellers review

We map the ad exchanges, websites, sellers, resellers, records showing who is allowed to sell, private deals, approved lists, blocked lists, known gaps and what each means for cost.

Quality, safety and brand fit controls

We set the right checks before ads are bought and after they run, the levels to aim for, how much they cover, exceptions, how issues are reviewed and how much smaller your audience you accept in return.

Ads, landing pages and tracking readiness

We check the ad types included, claims, usage rights, ad serving, tracking code, tracked actions, pages, offers, accessibility and that everything flows well on phones.

Spending pace, launch and problem handling

We set the budget, bids, schedules, how often people see ads, which websites and apps are used, quality checks, monitoring, who can make changes, when to pause and who to alert.

{}

Cost, quality and results report

We match ad spend and every layer of fees against delivery, quality measures, the platform's credited sales and the real results you accept, before planning the next test.

Account ownership, access and handover

We make sure ad accounts, audience lists, tracking tags and reports sit in places you own or can access, record who has which login and hand over the settings and notes, so you keep your data if you ever change partners.

Why Softscotch

How we keep ad space, controls, costs and results connected

Every live part of the campaign can be traced back to its business purpose, an approved route to buy ad space, permission to use the audience data, the ad, the landing page, the agreed meaning of a result, its fee and the next decision.

We name the buying route first

Your proposal names the account, platform, private deal access, websites and apps, who runs it and what we assume about the contract, instead of selling "programmatic" as one general channel.

You can see where your money went

Details of the seller, reseller, website, exchange, deal and permission to sell stay attached to your reports wherever the buying route shows them.

Quality controls come with honest limits

Settings for viewability, fake or bot traffic, brand safety and brand fit come with their coverage gaps, levels, exceptions and the cost or audience size you give up.

Repeat-view limits come with clear caveats

Limits on how often people see ads, and how many people you reached, are reported along with the limits caused by devices, browsers, logins, account settings and estimated numbers.

You always see the total cost

Ad spend, data, customer matching, quality checks, platform, ad serving, ad production and service fees are kept as separate cost lines.

Each next test answers one question

Any change to sellers, audiences, quality settings or ads uses a stated idea to test, a budget, safety limits, a rule for when to stop and a business measure.

The 36 decisions behind a safe, well-run display ad buy

The work covers the buying platform, where ads can run, private deals with websites, audience data, consent, how often people see ads, viewability (whether an ad could actually be seen), fake or bot traffic, brand fit, the ads, costs and reporting.

Buying route, business decision and who decides
DSP or managed serviceName the account, who runs it, countries, ad types, the ad space available, the level of support, the contract and who is responsible for what.
Business result and the job of the adsState whether the display ads should introduce you to new people, remind past visitors (retargeting), help people compare options, reach a known audience or do another approved job.
Budget, bids and money limitsSet the ad budget, the most you will pay in fees, how bids are set, an acceptable result, profit margin or lead quality and when to stop.
How you buy ad spaceChoose between the open exchange, private auctions (invite-only auctions run by a publisher), preferred deals (a fixed price agreed with one publisher) or guaranteed deals (a set amount of ad space reserved for you), plus priority and what access depends on.
How much risk you accept and what to avoidTurn your brand, legal and business concerns into written decisions about ad space, content, apps, websites, topics and locations.
Who approves, changes and handles problemsName who approves the setup, who changes budgets or controls, who accepts exceptions, who pauses spending and who tells people when something goes wrong.
Audience data rights and repeat views
Where audience data comes from and whyRecord each audience's provider, source, allowed use, countries, legal basis for consent, expiry date and the person on your side who owns it.
Limits on recognizing peopleWrite down where cookies, devices, mobile apps, logged-in users and estimated reach work, and where the same person cannot be linked across them.
How often and how recently people see adsSet frequency caps (limits on how often one person sees your ads) at the right campaign, order or line level, and decide timing since the last view, who stops seeing ads and any exceptions.
Sensitive and excluded groupsStop the use of restricted, unapproved or unsuitable data and record how we check that excluded groups stay excluded.
Websites, apps and proof of who is selling
Ad exchanges and publisher ad spaceList the exchanges, websites, apps, publishers, ad types, countries and level of reporting detail available on the chosen buying route.
Authorized seller checkUse ads.txt or app-ads.txt files (public lists where websites and apps name who is allowed to sell their ad space) to see declared sellers, without treating that permission as a measure of quality.
Seller and reseller chainReview sellers.json files and SupplyChain records (industry files that show each company passing the ad space along) where available, and flag missing, hidden or mismatched links in the chain.
Deal terms and how they workRecord the deal type, minimum or fixed price, any reserved ad space, priority, dates, what ad space is promised, fees and what delivery depends on.
Quality, safety and brand fit
What counts as "viewable" and how much is measuredState the measuring rule used, which ad space it applies to, the share that could be measured, the target and why "could be seen" does not mean someone paid attention.
Fake and bot traffic controlsName the protections used before ads are bought and after they run, how reports are adjusted, how much is covered, how issues are escalated and what cannot be removed completely.
Basic brand safetyApply the chosen platform or checking-tool controls that block clearly harmful content, and write down where their content labeling can get things wrong.
Your own brand fit planSet the topics, keywords, apps, websites and publishers that suit your brand, plus approved lists, blocked lists and how exceptions are reviewed.

Tracking code, actions and creditDefine which ad views, clicks, page actions and real business results are tracked with consent, including the limits on matching people and on attribution windows (how long after an ad a sale is still credited to it).
Launch, spending pace and improvement

Checks before launchCheck accounts, sellers, audiences, exclusions, ads, landing pages, tracking, quality checks, fees and approvals.
Fair media testsChange only one thing at a time, such as sellers, audience, quality settings or the ad, and only when there is enough delivery and business data to compare fairly.
Monitoring and emergency pauseWatch spending, delivery, quality, rejected ads, pages, tracking and alerts, with named people who fix problems and pause spending.
Quality and money reporting

Fake traffic and brand fit resultsShow traffic that was filtered out or adjusted, flagged content, coverage, exceptions, later corrections and risks still open.
Credited and real business resultsKeep clicks and the sales the platform takes credit for separate from accepted leads, orders, value, refunds, margin and any claim that the ads caused extra sales.
Checking invoices and feesCompare totals for ad spend, data, customer matching, quality checks, platform, deals, ad serving, service fees, currency and adjustments.
Limits, costs and handover

Research and implementation tools

The buying route you choose decides which controls are available

We check the options in your DSP, ad exchanges (the marketplaces where ad space is auctioned), publishers (the websites and apps that sell space), ad quality checking tools and consent tools for your account, countries, ad space and contract.

What we check

Seven checks, from choosing the buying route to the first quality report

Each check records the evidence we have, the limits of the controls, the cost, your decision, the person responsible and what happens next.

Check 01 · Buying route, business role and budget

Buying route, the job of the ads and budget

We choose the actual platform, how ad space will be bought and the business question to answer before any setup.

The result names the DSP or managed service, account, countries, ad types, budget, fees, who runs it and who approves.

Route startAgree the business situation, audience, job of the ads, what counts as a real result, when you need to decide and why programmatic is the right choice.
Proof inputCheck account access, contract, countries, available ad space, ad types, private deal access, support, billing and what reporting is available.
Setup structurePick the buying route, budget, what our fee covers, risk limits, how sales will be credited and when we would stop.
Check go liveConfirm the named people in charge of setup, ads, data, quality checks, pages, tracking, changes and handling problems.
Limit controlFlag a buying route that doesn't fit, too little budget, missing access, reports that aren't available or business assumptions nobody has settled.
Decision resultApprove the brief, or name what is missing before a responsible first purchase can go ahead.
Check 02 · Audience rights, matching people and repeat views

Audience data rights, matching people and repeat views

We set out which audience data may be used and where limits on repeat views can fail.

Because the same person can't always be recognized, limits on repeat views, reach figures and lists of people to leave out are never perfectly accurate for each individual.

Route startList audience sources, providers, allowed uses, countries, data fields, consent decisions, how long data is kept and when it expires.
Proof inputReview cookies, devices, apps, logins, IDs, how customer data is loaded, estimated audiences, how well people match and who is left out.
Setup structureSet the audiences allowed, repeat-view limits, timing since the last view, who stops seeing ads, audience widening, locations and limits on sensitive data.
Check go liveTest a sample of audiences for availability, expiry, how consent choices are passed on, exclusions and repeat-view settings.
Limit controlRecord limits caused by people using several devices, shared devices, browsers, apps, deals and places where people can barely be recognized.
Decision resultApprove the audience plan, the data owner, how it will be monitored and how much risk of over-showing ads you accept.
Check 03 · Websites, sellers and deal routes

Websites and apps, sellers and deal routes

We show which routes can receive your budget and how much proof is available about who is selling.

Seller permission files and declared seller chains make buying more open, but they don't prove the content is good or the ad space is worth the price.

Route startList the available exchanges, publishers, websites, apps, ad types, countries, deals, report fields and exclusions.
Proof inputReview the available records of authorized sellers, seller identity and the seller chain for the chosen routes.
Setup structureKeep apart how open exchange, private auction, preferred and guaranteed deals work, including access, price and delivery terms.
Check go liveBring website, seller, reseller, exchange, deal and fee details into your reports wherever they are available.
Limit controlFlag missing links in the chain, hidden sellers, mismatches, duplicate routes, poor detail and ad space outside your agreed limits.
Decision resultApprove the routes, approved lists, blocked lists, deals, exceptions and the people in charge.
Check 04 · Viewability, fake traffic and brand fit

Viewability, fake or bot traffic and brand fit

We choose the right controls and write down where they can't see or prevent a risk.

A viewable ad only had a chance to be seen. No system for checking traffic or content catches everything.

Route startAgree the viewability measure, the target, the share that can be measured, how fake traffic is handled and your brand fit rules.
Proof inputReview the options in the platform, exchange and checking tools, where they work, the levels they use, how they label content and their fees.
Setup structureSet the available checks before buying, reporting after ads run, topic controls, lists, keywords and rules for exceptions.
Check go liveTest settings and sample reports, including how much was measured, traffic that was filtered out and the effect on reach.
Limit controlRecord ad space that can't be measured, wrongly labeled content, later corrections, fake traffic that slips through and how much audience you give up.
Decision resultApprove the controls, their cost, who handles exceptions, how problems are escalated and the warnings that go with the reports.
Check 05 · Ads, landing pages and tracking

Ads, landing pages and tracking

We check the whole path, from the ad being shown to an action that counts as a real business result.

An approved ad, a page that loads and tracking code that fires are three separate checks.

Route startList the ad types, files, wording, claims, rights, versions, ad serving tags, click paths, dates and the people in charge.
Proof inputCheck the offer, proof, terms, call to action, mobile page, accessibility, error messages and how leads or orders are passed on.
Setup structureDefine which ad views, clicks, page visits, sales and accepted results are tracked, plus consent, matching, value and credit windows.
Check go liveCheck a sample of how ads display, placement previews, click tracking, landing page states and the data each tracked action sends.
Limit controlFlag claims without proof, missing rights, broken tracking, offers that don't match, slow pages and results that can't be used.
Decision resultApprove the ads and tracked actions, or hold the launch until the named fix has passed its check.
Check 06 · Spending pace, launch and problem handling

Spending pace, launch and problem handling

We switch on a campaign with clear limits, where spending, quality and the right to pause are already assigned to named people.

A campaign line that has been submitted or approved doesn't prove you'll get the ad space, that ads will be delivered or that quality will be good.

Route startConfirm the final routes, audiences, deals, lists, quality settings, ads, pages, tracking, budgets, dates and the people in charge.
Proof inputCheck the platform's campaign lines, fees, time zones, repeat-view limits, spending pace, bid settings, deal priority and what happens if ads don't spend.
Setup structureRun account, ad, page, tracking, ad space, quality, reporting and billing checks before switching anything on.
Check go liveSwitch on through the approved person and record the IDs, settings, versions, time and starting status.
Limit controlWatch for overspending, underspending, drops in quality, incidents, broken pages, lost data and platform changes.
Decision resultRecord the approved launch state, faults, pauses, exceptions and the next person responsible for running it.
Check 07 · Quality, cost and business report

Quality, cost and business report

We explain what your budget bought and what the evidence can support next.

Ads delivered, ads measured, ads that could be seen, sales the platform takes credit for and extra business the ads truly caused are all different claims.

Route startShow ad spend and delivery by buying route, exchange, publisher, website or app, deal, audience, ad type and time period.
Proof inputReport the share of ads measured and viewable, fake traffic adjustments, brand fit flags, coverage and known gaps.
Setup structureCheck repeat views and reach against the limits on recognizing people, and keep measured numbers apart from estimated ones.
Check go liveKeep the platform's credited sales separate from accepted leads, orders, value, refunds, margin and extra sales truly caused by the ads.
Limit controlMatch invoices and platform totals across ad spend, data, customer matching, quality checks, ad serving and service fees.
Decision resultChoose to keep going, remove sellers, renegotiate, pause, expand or test one thing, and agree the budget and person in charge.

How we compare

How we compare with a typical programmatic agency: a clear buying decision, not just a big number of ad views

We show you the buying route, the sellers, the limits of quality checks, how often people saw your ads, the total cost and the business evidence behind each next budget decision.

The risk of using a different agency for everything
  • Sells programmatic as one single channel
  • Reports only the platform's own totals
  • Treats permission to sell as proof of quality
  • Assumes view limits work for each person
  • Treats "viewable" as "paid attention"
  • Promises to stop all fraud and fake traffic
  • Uses one blocked list for every risk
  • Hides data and checking fees
  • Chases the platform's credited sales alone
  • Promises ad space, reach or extra sales
vs
Softscotch
  • Names the platform and deal routes
  • Keeps whatever seller detail is available
  • Keeps openness about sellers separate from brand fit
  • States the limits on recognizing people and view limits
  • Keeps "had a chance to be seen" separate
  • Writes down coverage and the risk that remains
  • Layers brand safety, brand fit and exceptions
  • Checks every named cost line against invoices
  • Includes the quality of real business results
  • Is clear about limits on ad space and results

Ethical, transparent, always on

One accountable team, strictly white-hat (only methods search engines and platforms allow), no shortcuts and no surprises. Support whenever you need it.

One plan, full-stack access

One Softscotch plan gives you access to the full service stack, coordinated around your priorities.

You do not need a separate agency or retainer for every channel. Your plan can draw from search, paid media, web, ecommerce, outreach, automation, lead generation, messaging, content, creative and operations. The agreed scope sets what is active, in what order and at what capacity.

Pricing approach

One price for everything, not a stack of separate retainers.

You get one price for your whole marketing, not a separate retainer for every service. SEO, paid ads, your website, automations, cold email and newsletters, we run all of it as a single scope, so you get the most result for what you pay. Agencies sell each of these on its own, so the invoice climbs whether or not that line drives a single lead.

Bought separately, service by service

A different agency or retainer for each service. The bill stacks up fast, and keeps climbing whether or not each one moves a single lead.

All of it, one scope

We run your whole marketing as one engagement, so you get the most result for what you pay, not a pile of disconnected invoices.

Programmatic display advertising FAQs

These answers explain the buying route, where your ads run, the controls, costs, timing, who owns what, how results are measured and the limits.

Filter
What is included in programmatic display advertising?

Your proposal can include choosing the buying route, accounts, audiences, how often people see ads, a review of websites, apps and sellers, private deals, quality and brand fit controls, ad and landing page checks, tracking, spending pace, monitoring, costs, reporting and keeping accounts and data in places you own. It names the platforms, countries and work included.

Which DSP or buying platform will you use?

Your proposal names the DSP (the software used to buy ads), managed service or other route, the account owner, who runs it, countries, ad space access, deal assumptions, support and reporting. We don't treat every programmatic option as if they were the same.

Which websites and apps will my ads run on?

Only those allowed by the campaign settings and your approved lists or deals, and only when the ad space is actually available in the auction or reserved for you. Reports show whatever website, app, exchange or seller detail the chosen route makes available.

What do ads.txt and sellers.json prove?

These public files help you see which sellers and middlemen a website or app says are allowed to sell its ad space. They don't prove the page is good quality, suits your brand, that the ad could be seen, that people paid attention or that the ad space was worth the money.

What audience data can be used?

Only the sources and uses you approve that the chosen platform and country also allow. The plan sets out consent, how long data is kept, how people are recognized and matched, expiry, who is left out and limits on sensitive data.

Can you guarantee a limit on how often each person sees my ads?

No. Frequency caps depend on the IDs, devices, browsers, apps and logins the system can see, the buying route and the level the cap is set at. Your reports state these limits.

Does a viewable ad mean somebody paid attention?

No. It means the ad met the chosen measuring rule for having a chance to be seen, where it could be measured at all. For example, the common industry rule counts a standard display ad as viewable when at least half of it is on screen for at least one second. That doesn't prove anyone noticed it or was persuaded.

Can fake or bot traffic be removed completely?

No. We can set up the available protections, review evidence before ads are bought and after they run, and act on suspicious sources, but no system catches or blocks every fake ad view.

What is the difference between brand safety and brand suitability?

Brand safety controls block content that is clearly harmful for almost any advertiser. Brand suitability applies your own, more specific comfort level to topics, keywords, websites, apps, publishers and exceptions. Both can mislabel content and neither covers everything.

Are private marketplace deals included?

Only the deal finding, setup or running named in your proposal. Negotiating with publishers, minimum spends, contracts, guarantees and work by outside partners are separate unless they are listed and priced.

Is making the ads included?

Only the named sizes, ad types, versions and rounds of changes. Design, animation, video, translation, stock images, ad serving and specialist production are separate unless they are listed and priced.

Do you set up tracking code and tracked actions?

Only when it is listed in your proposal. We can check or set up the named tracked actions that people have consented to, and test customer matching, values, credit windows and links to your sales records, within the known limits of platforms and browsers.

What costs sit outside your service fee?

Ad spend, platform fees, deals, audience data, customer matching, quality checks, ad serving, making ads, translation, page work, tracking, tools, taxes and specialist reviews are separate unless they are listed and priced.

What does the report keep separate?

It keeps apart ads served, ads that qualified for measuring, ads measured and ads viewable, fake traffic adjustments, brand fit findings, reach, frequency, clicks, the platform's credited sales, accepted results and invoices.

Do the platform's credited sales prove the ads caused extra sales?

No. Attribution gives credit for sales based on chosen rules. To estimate the extra sales the ads truly caused, you need a fair comparison group, enough data and as few other changes as possible during the test.

Can you guarantee placements, viewability, leads or cost per lead?

No. Softscotch is responsible for the agreed setup, controls, monitoring and reporting. But available ad space, auctions, publishers, the people who see the ads, measurement, your offers and how your business runs also affect results.

How soon can the first campaign launch?

A careful first launch usually takes 1 to 2 weeks once the buying route, access, budget, audience permissions, ads, pages, tracking, controls, contracts and approvals are ready. Private deals, loading customer data and platform reviews can add time.

How is programmatic display advertising priced?

The price depends on the buying route, accounts, countries, ad space, deals, audiences, layers of quality control, making ads, ad serving, tracking, page work, monitoring, reporting and outside costs. Your proposal sets out exactly what is included first.
